Halvgudene III
This is the book cover illustration I did for Arven etter Maél which is the third book in Mari Moen Holsve's fantasy trilogy Halvgudene (The Demigods). The previous two covers were done by some good, old colleages and friends of mine, Christer Sveen and Grant Regan.
The cover design has just been announced and the book will be published by Cappelen Damm some time next month.

40th World Wide SketchCrawl in Borneo
Last month Hanne and me spent a fantastic honeymoon in Borneo (yes, we got married on the 22nd of June!) and while we were there the 40th World Wide SketchCrawl took place.
Since I didn't expect to find any other sketchcrawlers at Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort outside Kota Kinabalu I arranged my own little mini SketchCrawl - both in size and duration.
There's an orangutan in the first sketch. That's because the hotel had it's own sanctuary where we went to watch the feeding this day. Since it was incredibly hot and crowded (and I rather wanted to observe the feeding and take photos) this is the only tiny sketch I did. The other pages were done in the air conditioned lobby a bit later during an afternoon shower.
The sketches were later photographed on the bed with my tablet and uploaded without any enhancement.
Hope you like them!

Reisen til Julestjernen
Reisen til Julestjernen is a well-known Norwegian Christmas play from 1924. Even better-known is the movie from 1976. A few weeks ago a new movie based on the play was released in the cinemas here in Norway.
Gimpville did some of the effects on it and I did some of the designs including The Northern Wind and Santa's workshop. The Northern Wind can be seen at 0:41 in the trailer and the workshop can be seen at 1:30.
Here are some concepts of the workshop's exterior and interior:
Gimpville Dump
It has been a while since I've posted anything I've done in work at Gimpville. So here is some selected stuff from the last year.
First out some character design work I did for three animated Coop Extra-spots.
Final designs:
Some more concept art:
I also storyboarded these and animated the first 15 seconds on this one (still one of my first CG-animation jobs ever):
Check out the other two films here and here.
Next up is this spot for Canal Digital. I did several concepts of the main character and the environment. I also blocked out the animation in TVPaint and did some backgrounds.
We did several variations of this, including one with a special offer from TVNorge. Here's a concept I did for that:

1st TSW Meeting Notes
I came over this sheet while unpacking a box at home: My notes from the very first official The Secret World (TSW) production meeting.
TSW was released by Funcom earlier this summer. I left the production back in 2009, but already then I had been working on it as a concept artist for about three and a half years.
I believe this note is from early May 2006. We were just a handful of people attending the meeting and we were planning a demo level taking place in Transylvania, Romania. The player would move through the forest, come over a gypsy camp, have a chat with a gypsy king before visiting a gypsy woman living by a lake. Finally the player would end up in a cemetery and would have to fight werewolves and vampires.
And, the most important thing, it had to be KICKAZZ (and more comic than Van Helsing).
Deadline: 26nd of July 2006 - or even better: mid-July. That sounds like a tight deadline, but TSW had evolved from a FPS idea which had been in the works at Funcom even earlier which meant some work had already been done on a very similar demo. But now the game was called The Secret World and was going to be an MMORPG.
After this meeting I would sit down and do a sketch of a werewolf which would be my first concept for the game... It wasn't very good though. I might post it for the 10th anniversary... ;)

Bendik and the Monster
A few guys here at Gimpville are currently doing some pre-production work on Bendik and the Monster, an animated short directed by Frank Mosvold, which is scheduled to be released some time next summer.
Here are some concepts. Don't forget to like our Facebook page.

Phenomena 7
Here's a book cover I did last summer. It's for Ruben Eliassen's Phenomena 7: Frostens Datter which, pretty obviously, is the 7th book in his Phenomena series. It was published last autumn by Gyldendal.
This was the first cover in the series he didn't illustrate himself, so to me it meant I had to do my interpretation of the already established character designs and the style.

The Secret World Teaser #4
I completely forgot to post this when it was released back in August.
It's the last teaser I was involved in before leaving Funcom. On this one I did the storyboards only. The director originally wanted it all in one take - which was a bit of a challenge. But they seem to have abandoned that thought later in the process.
Enjoy!

Blåfjell 2 Concept Art
Gimpville did some effects for the Norwegian christmas movie "Blåfjell 2: Jakten på det magiske horn" (a.k.a. Magic Silver 2) which has just been released in the theaters over here.
We primarily did effects for two sequences in the movie.
For the first sequence containing some animated holograms telling an ancient story I did the designs and storyboarded the animation before doing an animatic on top of the live action plates.
The second sequence was a two and a half minute long underground mine cart chase where we did the entire mine before comping in the two main characters riding the mine cart in front of a green screen.
Footage from both sequences can be seen in this trailer.

Apotekforeningen - Bus
Here's my second attempt on CG-animation, the third spot in a series of four Gimpville just did for the Norwegian Pharmacy Association.
(The previous spots can be seen below - and the fourth and final one, animated by Kjetil Kulander, can be seen here.)

Marg & Bein: Korte Grøss
Here's yet another Marg & Bein cover. It's the 21st book in the series - which means my 21st cover, but it's the first book to contain several short stories by the regular three authors Arne Svingen, Ingunn Aamodt and Jon Ewo. It is also in a slightly different format than the previous books.

Apotekforeningen - Elevator
The previous post included my very first comp.
And here is my very first piece of CG-animation!
Gimpville is currently doing four spots for the Norwegian Pharmacy Association. The two first were just released and I animated the elevator scene in the one below.
Due to a fairly tight deadline I pretty much had to learn by doing, but I'm quite happy with the result after all.
I also did concepts and designs for these spots. I have posted a selection of them below.
Don't forget to check out the other spot as well, animated by Kjetil Kulander.
Enjoy!

Hodejegerne VFX
Hodejegerne is doing very well in the Norwegian cinemas at the moment. Gimpville did quite a few effects for it and here is a clip showing what we did. Some spoiler shots are excluded.
This movie also happens to include my very first compositing work ever to be released - which is the last shot in this clip with the garbage truck. :)
Enjoy.

Here's a concept I did for Gimpville's third Nille spot. Nille is a Norwegian variety store chain and the spot can be seen here.
