Knutsen & Ludvigsen og den fæle Rasputin

Long time, no post!
Today I am very excited to start developing the production design for the upcoming animated feature Knutsen & Ludvigsen og Det Store Dyret, the sequel to Knutsen & Ludvigsen og den fæle Rasputin which was released in 2015.
I thought this would be a good day to share a few of the many concept designs I did for the first film back in the days.
Enjoy! :)

Solan og Ludvig: Herfra til Flåklypa

Solan og Ludvig: Herfra til Flåklypa was released in 2015 and is Qvisten Animation's second stop-motion feature based on Norwegian author and artist Kjell Aukrust's famous characters and universe.
I designed most of the new characters which happened to be the bad guys and some animals. I also did concepts of extras from the rivaling village. Most of them ended up in the final movie.
The bad guys; Kleppvold, Slåpen, Emanuel Desperados, as well as the vusvol creature were already existing characters from Aukrust's books and had to be adapted from the illustrations. The extras and the goat I had to design from scratch based on Aukrust's distinguished style (he hardly ever drew children and animals, so very little reference was available there).
Check out the trailer here.

Dyrene i Hakkebakkeskogen

The famous Norwegian children's book by Thorbjørn Egner from 1953 was just made into a stop-motion feature by Qvisten Animation and released this Christmas.
I came up with some of the very first design ideas. Egner's loose illustration style and well established characters should be recognizable, but they should also work in a three dimensional world.
The main character, Klatremus, was the first design I did and he remained pretty much unchanged all the way through to the finished film.
Here are some of my concepts as well as some reference sketches for the animators.
And here is the trailer.

Tuesday, March 01, 2016!! is a short film I worked on back in 2010 at Storm Studios which was directed by Anne Kristin Berge. I was the lead animator and mainly responsible for animating the 2D elements like the kid and the monsters. It was great fun! :)! from AN-Imation on Vimeo.

Bring Gullblyanten 2015

Here's another thing I've been working on at Qvisten recently.
Made to be shown only once at the Gullblyanten advertisement award show here in Oslo last Friday.
Announcing that, instead of misplacing their awards during the night (which apparently used to happen a lot after a few drinks previous years), winners could hand them in at a Bring stand during the show and have them delivered over the weekend.
All artwork, animation and art direction by myself. Comp and After Effects animation by Carl Corneil. Directed by Petter Byermoen Jahre.
And it's of course best at full screen. :)

Here's something I did at Qvisten last year.
Monster is a Norwegian TV production company and they just got a new profile and new mascots. Here is a presentation of them all which was shown at their Christmas party.
This clip was later split up into several shorter jingles which will appear at the end of their programs.
The monsters were designed by Drew Millward. Animation by me. Enjoy!

Knutsen & Ludvigsen Trailer

Finally, here it is:
The teaser trailer for the movie I've been working on since last autumn at Qvisten Animation.
It's called Knutsen & Ludvigsen og den fæle Rasputin. Knutsen & Ludvigsen is a beloved Norwegian singing duo which started up back in the 70's. The characters are based on the designs done by Øystein "Knutsen" Dolmen.
I have been designer, art director and animator on this film. The beginning of the trailer, up until the song, is animated by me. It's both the first sequence of the film and the first one I animated.
I will definitely post more about this in the future so drop by again soon!

Bendik and the Monster - Moods

Back in September 2012 I did a little post on Frank Mosvold's animated short film Bendik and the Monster. Since then the film has been finished and has already had a few screenings.
I did storyboards, concepts, character designs, location designs and I also animated three sequences. Here are some mood pieces (in random order). Enjoy!

Tokyo Sketches January 2014

Last week I took a short trip just for fun to Tokyo where I spent four days.
Saturday I met up with a bunch of friends from the Tokyo sketch group. We went to the aquarium in Shinagawa and later on for some food and drinks. It was a very nice day and I got a few sketches done. Hope you like them.

Gåten Ragnarok

During the summer of 2011 I was asked to do some monster concepts for a Norwegian action adventure. The movie was "Gåten Ragnarok" which premiered last week.
At first the brief was pretty vague - as you can see I even did some bipedal designs based on Nøkken a.k.a. The Neck.
Soon after Ghost VFX in Denmark ended up creating the monster. And so far I have only seen a short glimpse of the final design in the trailer.
Anyway, here are some of the suggestions I came up with back then. Enjoy!
